Sustainability: the award goes to Ilaria Capua, Reinhold Messner, Andrea Rigoni, Riedel Glass and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.
Five interpreters of Sustainability in its environmental, social and economic aspects, are the winners of the 39th edition of the Masi Prize, which adapts to the difficult contingency we are currently experiencing by opting for an extremely topical matter, holding the event digitally.
A world-famous Italian researcher and virologist, a mountaineer with extraordinary undertakings under his belt and firm protector of the mountain and an entrepreneur who pioneers in environmental sustainability: this is who Ilaria Capua, Reinhold Messner and Andrea Rigoni really are, the three winners of the 2020 Masi Civiltà Veneta Prize.
The International Masi Civiltà del Vino Prize has instead been awarded to the company Riedel Glass, which has shown its capacity to perfectly produce wine glasses from recycled crystal, whilst the International Grosso d'Oro Veneziano Prize, awarded to the person who has most stood out in the field of human rights and civil progress, goes to Italian diplomat Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
These are the three categories of the Prize promoted by the Masi Foundation since 1981 and chaired by writer The Deputy Chair of the Masi Foundation and Chair of Masi, Sandro Boscaini, says: “In this year marked by the dramatic planetary emergency of Covid-19, complicated by the lock-down and forced distancing, our decision to award the Prizes was never in doubt. Indeed, we set ourselves the target of offering a precise, strong signal of resilience in a context of a general re-launch: from the economy to school, from the world of entertainment to publishing and from tourism to food and wine. The latter, in particular, really come into their own in social, convivial occasions and have therefore been amongst the worst struck”.
The Masi Prize will be awarded at 5pm on Saturday, 24 October and this edition will be streamed live from Cantine di Gargagnago in Valpolicella:
The event will be carried out without any public present, in compliance with the instructions for containing Covid-19 and will be broadcast entirely by local issuers.
